Today’s gem is this presentation on business heroes by Mark Leonard. It was presented at the University of Toronto earlier this year.
The presentation features Roy Thomson, which Mark considers his business hero and key inspiration for starting Constellation Software. Roy failed twice chasing high-growth industries, before striking gold with newspapers in his 40s. I didn’t know much about Roy’s career, so these slides were a great summary for me.
The presentation also discusses what to look for in business heroes and how to study them. As well, Mark discusses some points around good vs. bad businesses and why growth businesses may not be great businesses.
